Anthropic Eyes October IPO as Banks Circle a $350B AI Listing
Bloomberg reports Anthropic is in early talks with Wall Street banks about an IPO as soon as October 2026. The company is valued at $350 billion after closing a $20B+ round in February.
Anthropic is considering going public as soon as October 2026, according to people familiar with the matter cited by Bloomberg on March 27. The Claude maker has had early discussions with Wall Street banks about taking lead roles on a potential listing — a move that would make it one of the largest tech IPOs in years.
The Numbers Behind the Push
The timing makes sense on the fundamentals. Anthropic closed a $20 billion funding round in February 2026 at a $350 billion valuation — twice what it originally sought, driven by demand from Altimeter, Sequoia, Lightspeed, Nvidia, and Microsoft. Annualized revenue is approaching $19 billion. Claude holds an estimated 50%+ share of enterprise coding deployments.
Those are public-market numbers. An IPO before year-end would let early investors — including Google and Amazon, who each committed billions in 2023 — realize returns while AI valuations remain elevated.
Racing OpenAI to the Bell
The competitive angle matters here. OpenAI, valued at $500 billion, has been telegraphing its own IPO plans since late 2025. Both companies hired law firms in late 2025 to begin IPO prep work — Anthropic brought on Wilson Sonsini in December. The race to be the first frontier AI lab to trade publicly has clear strategic value: market attention, brand legitimacy, and an ongoing currency for talent and acquisitions.
OpenAI’s transition from a nonprofit to a public benefit corporation structure is still unresolved, a legal complexity Anthropic does not share. That could give Anthropic a structural advantage in timing.
What the Fundrise Drop Signals
A secondary data point appeared the same day: the Fundrise Innovation Fund, a closed-end fund with Anthropic exposure that listed on the NYSE on March 19, dropped 34% — extending a 31% decline from the prior session. The drop reflects IPO repricing dynamics rather than any fundamental deterioration, but it underscores the market volatility that comes with pricing a pre-IPO AI stake publicly.
The Caveats
Sources noted the discussions are early and the information isn’t public — IPO timing can slip, especially if market conditions shift or revenue growth decelerates. Anthropic is still burning capital at scale given compute requirements, and AI company unit economics remain an open question for public market investors who can’t rely on VCs to set the reference price.
But the direction is clear. Anthropic has been on a deliberate IPO prep track for over a year. October 2026 is the most specific timeline reported so far.
