Google Launches Googlebook — Android-Based AI Laptops Built Around Gemini Intelligence, Arriving Fall 2026
Google announced Googlebook at the Android Show: I/O Edition, a new category of premium laptops built with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo that are designed from the ground up around Gemini Intelligence. The same AI layer is also coming to Android Auto, Wear OS, and Android XR.

Devices from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo arrive this fall. You’ll know one by the “glowbar” — a distinctive backlit strip that serves as the product family’s hardware signature.
Googlebook is the hardware manifestation of Gemini Intelligence, Google’s cross-device AI layer that starts rolling out this summer. Gemini Intelligence is architecturally different from a traditional assistant: instead of responding to queries, it monitors context across apps and acts proactively. It can pull calendar events, draft replies, summarize documents on screen, and complete multi-step tasks without the user explicitly requesting each step.
What Runs on a Googlebook
On Googlebook specifically, two headline features stand out. Magic Pointer delivers contextual Gemini suggestions wherever the cursor lands — open a document and Gemini surfaces relevant email threads, calendar context, or reference files without a search prompt. Create your Widget lets users build custom home-screen panels by prompting in natural language. Gemini pulls live data from Google apps or the web and designs the layout.
File access bridges the phone-laptop gap: you can browse your Android phone’s files directly in the Googlebook file manager without transferring anything first. Small feature, real friction removed.
Hardware partners include Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo — a wider OEM spread than Chromebook’s early days. No pricing was disclosed. Google called them “premium” devices, suggesting a higher price tier than the Chromebook market, likely competing with Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC line.
Gemini Intelligence Beyond Googlebook
Google confirmed today that Gemini Intelligence is expanding to Android Auto, Wear OS, Android XR, and standard Android phones — starting with Samsung Galaxy and Pixel devices this summer. Android Auto’s integration includes what Google described as the biggest maps update in a decade, plus Gemini handling in-car tasks like ordering food while driving.
The Wear OS integration brings proactive AI to the wrist: Gemini can surface health context, suggest replies to messages, and manage reminders based on calendar and location awareness. Android XR — Google’s spatial computing platform — will use Gemini to navigate and summarize content across the mixed-reality interface.
Strategic Timing
Google is pushing Gemini into every screen category before Apple announces its Siri-adjacent AI relaunch at WWDC, expected in June. The Android Show series — this is the second event in two weeks — is a deliberate pre-I/O offensive. The full Google I/O keynote is scheduled for May 19.
